How Long Has Your Book Been Waiting?
Nobody quits writing because they ran out of ideas.
They quit because the idea came on a Sunday and by Thursday they couldn't remember where it was headed. You wrote three pages. Then work got busy, somebody got sick, and the file just sat there. Two months later you opened it back up and it read like a stranger wrote it. So you closed it.
That's the whole story. And it repeats.
Meanwhile you keep living. You keep learning things, going through things, collecting more of exactly what the book needs. The notes pile up. The book doesn't move an inch.
And then there's the part nobody says out loud.
The longer it sits, the heavier it gets. Year three is harder to start than year one. Somewhere in there a thought creeps in and makes itself at home. Maybe you're not the one who's supposed to write this. Maybe you heard wrong.
You didn't. You just never had a system for it.
Doug Sat On His First Book For Three Years
Here's how Doug told it.
In 2002 he was awakened by the audible voice of an angel telling him to get up and write. He typed out a six-page outline that night.
Then he put the book off for three full years.
It wasn't that he didn't want to write it. He said he had no strategy for writing or publishing and didn't even know how to get started. He also had a long list of reasons to quit. ADD. Dyslexia. Teachers who'd told him he couldn't write, words he later called lies. Stack perfectionism and procrastination on top of that and three years disappear without much of a fight.
He said he was afraid he'd never get it written at all, never mind published.
Then, in his words, God gave him a strategy.
Doug was careful about the difference between those two things. He liked to point out that Noah got the revelation about the ark but still had to swing the hammer. The angel handed him the assignment in 2002. The strategy is what finally let him do something with it.
After that, he said, the manuscript came together in about three weeks.
By 2021 he'd written ten books and had three more in progress.
He spent years teaching that same strategy to anybody who'd sit still for it. This course is where he put it.
Why Your Book Matters
A book does things a conversation can't.
It keeps your story after the moment's gone. It gets to the person who'd never walk into your church, or your office, or your living room. It sits on a shelf until two in the morning, when somebody who can't sleep goes looking for the exact thing you already survived, and there you are.
Books also open doors you never knocked on. People get invited onto podcasts because of a book. They get asked to speak. They get taken seriously in rooms where nobody used to look up, because now there's something with their name on it they can slide across the table.
We won't promise you money or a bestseller. Nobody honest can.
But the book that never gets written helps nobody at all.

"Do not be discouraged by the number of books out there ... there are none like yours."
How Doug's Process Works
It's not complicated, and that was deliberate.
Doug broke a book into steps small enough that somebody with a job and a family could actually finish them. Find the message. Figure out who you're talking to. Build the outline before you write a single chapter. Set a schedule that fits a normal week. Then draft, and while you're drafting, don't edit. He was firm about that one. Editing has its own stage and this isn't it. Then you get it ready to publish.

In 2023 Doug ran a live 30-day writing challenge. We kept the recordings.
Four of those sessions are in your course, sitting next to the lessons they belong with. It's Doug teaching in real time, taking questions from people who were mid-book and stuck. Some of it's encouragement. Some of it's him telling somebody kindly that they're doing it wrong. All of it's him.
Fair warning on one thing. Any publishing detail you hear in those recordings is from 2023. For anything technical, the 2026 guide is the one to follow.
What's Stopping You
"I'm not a writer."
Doug had dyslexia and ADD and a set of teachers who told him he couldn't write. He wrote ten books anyway and was working on three more. Writer isn't a personality you're born with. It's a habit, and habits need a plan more than they need talent.
"My grammar isn't good enough."
Grammar is an editing problem. You're not supposed to be fixing it while you draft, and trying to is one of the main reasons books die halfway. Breaking that habit is one of the first things this course does.
"There are already too many books about this."
Doug's answer never changed. "Do not be discouraged by the number of books out there ... there are none like yours." Nobody else lived your life. Nobody's going to say it your way.
"I don't have time."
Almost nobody does. That's exactly why the plan is built on short, regular sessions instead of long ones. You'll build a schedule around the week you actually have.
"Can't AI just write it for me?"
It can produce something quickly. Here's the price you’ll pay.
You lose the protection. In the US, using a machine-generated AI to write a book for you doesn't get the copyright protection your own writing does. What you wrote is yours. What it wrote sits on much thinner ice.
You inherit a risk you can't see. These tools learned from staggering amounts of other people's work. Sometimes what comes out lands uncomfortably close to something that already exists. You'd have no way of knowing. But it's your name on the cover, and you're the one who answers for it.
You have to declare it. Amazon requires you to say whether AI generated your text, images, or translations. That's a different question from whether you used it to brainstorm or check grammar on your own writing. Answer it wrong, and they can pull the book or shut your account.
And you lose the thing that made it worth writing. God gave you the message. He gave it to you in your words, out of your life, through what you actually walked through. A machine has none of that.
